Glacier Hiking

Glacier hiking is for virtually everyone! With proper equipment and an experienced guide, explore the hidden treasures of the Matanuska Glacier. Trips depart at 10 am and 2 pm daily. Special group hiking times are available.

Discover glacier hiking and the natural history of the Matanuska Glacier. This trip is designed for family fun and ages 6-86 (more or less). You'll use mountaineering crampons to "walk on water" as you explore the glacier with your guide. A great overview and photo opportunity. No experience necessary.

Cost: $45 per person plus entry into Glacier Park, 2 person minimum.
Length: Approximately 1.5 hours.
We Provide: Mountaineering crampons, helmet and trekking pole.
You Bring: Hiking Boots, a day pack, sunglasses, sunscreen, gloves and rain gear. (We have hiking boots available for you to borrow if needed.) Minimums: Age 6 years and shoe size Children's 13.

Our most popular hike, featuring close-up views of crevasses, seracs and unique ice formations. With the use of crampons, you'll enjoy trekking to a high point on the glacier which overlooks the ice fall as well as getting up close. The glacier is in a constant state of change, and your guide can point out various features as you navigate the intense surface. This is sure to be an unforgettable experience. No experience necessary. Minimum age 8 years.

Cost: $70.00 per person plus entry into Glacier Park, 2 person minimum.
Traveling alone? If we can't add you to a group, you can still enjoy this trip for $100.
Length: Approximately 3 hours.

This short walk is planned to give your large group the opportunity to stand on a glacier, learn about the natural history of the area and get some great photos. Your group will have a fun and entertaining walk down to the edge of the blue ice led by a knowledgeable Guide. It's a relatively easy walk, taking about an hour. We do not use any special equipment for this trip as we are hiking mainly on dirt and gravel. No experience necessary. Minimum age 6 years. These trips are on a custom basis only.

Cost: $15.00 per person plus entry into Glacier Park, 10 person minimum.
Length: Approximately 1 hour.
You Bring: Footwear appropriate for walking on dirt and gravel trails.

Midnight Sun Evening Treks

Enjoy the Ice Fall Trek by the light of the midnight sun. These trips are available in June, July and August, and are great for photography enthusiasts. You will marvel at the alpenglow on the ice and enjoy the sounds of the glacier as it settles in for the evening. Midnight Sun hikes leave at 6:00 pm by prior arrangement. No experience necessary. (Same rates apply as our daily hikes).
